About Cadac North America...
CADAC was founded in Johannesburg in 1948. Its origins were in the manufacture of garden equipment, but then in 1957 it saw the potential for the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas as a cooking fuel and commenced the manufacture of LPG cylinders and appliances. Over the next few decades CADAC products for standby heating, cooking and lighting, found their way into the homes, farms and caravans across South Africa.
Since 1995 CADAC has been substantially diversifying its business – changing the overall brand perception from “gas" to “outdoor leisure" and developing a new range of products to suit the multitude of outdoor lifestyles that exist in South Africa. Products for camping, entertaining, hiking and safaris have all been introduced into the CADAC stable.
The current product range includes disposable gas cartridges, domestic LPG cylinders, cookers, stoves, lamps, portable and patio barbecues in gas and charcoal, cooler boxes and bags, picnic bas, nylon tents, sleeping bags, stainless steel vacuum flasks and mugs and a variety of accessories.
After establishing a broad distribution base in South Africa and its neighbouring countries, in 1988 CADAC began to expand to international outdoor leisure markets. In 1999 the company established an office in the UK to design and manufacture a specialist adventure range for the European market and to centralise sales and distribution in the UK. In 2002 a further office was opened in the Netherlands to market, sell and distribute the CADAC product range in Western Europe. International demand for CADAC products has grown swiftly, and today products are distributed and sold in Europe, the USA and the Middle East, and CADAC pursuing market penetration in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Today CADAC manufactures 90% of the portable LPG cylinders in Southern Africa, and employs approximately 80 people at the headquarters in Johannesburg. The company is an ISO 9001 approved manufacturer, and its cylinders and appliances are approved by the South African Bureau of Standards and endorsed by the Liquefied Petroleum Safety Association of Southern Africa.
Production of all product ranges has recently moved to China, where CADAC has several dedicated and shared factories, but with all products designed by CADAC. CADAC has also set up an office in China which controls quality and is the hub of all CADAC products being distributed around the world.
CADAC’s commitment to quality, advanced design, technology, and the consumer, means that it continues to enjoy leading market share in the South African leisure market and an increasingly strong share of the UK and European markets. CADAC is constantly striving to make outdoor adventure more enjoyable through innovative thinking, continuous research and new product development, and as a result is at the forefront of developing solutions and products that meet changing expectations of the consumer globally.
